Josh has been bitten by the fantasy football bug! One of his friends set up a league for them to play on ESPNzone.com . Just what this group of super competitive boys needs. Their draft was on Sunday. It was quiet amusing to watch him read SI (why does that magazine have to have Viagra ads????....oh wait, never mind) and compile his list of best picks. Frankly, he didn't pick anyone I would have picked. That might be a good thing though. I played in a league last year and came in dead LAST. Dad of course had to get in the action and make suggestions. Josh kept getting mad at him and saying he wanted to do it himself.
Should be interesting to see how he does. I'll keep you posted.

Gettysburg
In my never ending quest to give the boys some fun summer experiences we went to Gettysburg, PA this weekend. Even though it is only an 1.5 hours away, we splurged on a hotel room and stayed Saturday night.
What I learned....
Tim hates looking at empty battlefields as much as he hates looking at dead president's houses. Unless he can climb over cannons and rocks.
You really have to have a great imagination to listen to a tour on cd and "see" it on the battlefield. I always knew josh had a good imagination....now I know my husband does too!
Your oldest child will get over the fact that you wouldn't let him buy a confederate flag tshirt.
Said oldest child does know that the south "lost" the war. Had to make sure had he did have Virginia History. Virginia was in the south, a confederate state. Hard for the Yankee Mom to grasp.
Don't tell Tim there is a pool in the hotel room. He will ask every 10 seconds if it is time to swim.
A gallbladder attack feels like you are having a heart attack.
Don't assume your 10.75 year old will not want to make a bear at the boyd's bear factory. $90.00 we had two bears.
Take pictures of above child making his bear, and wearing a yellow builder hat, for bribing down the road.
Don't ask your men folk to help you pick out a yankee candle...they each had to have their own flavor. And none of them smell like flowers.
Don't tell your wife that your coworkers EXPENSIVE camera equipment that you borrowed isn't working.
We really need to take advantage of all the historical places so close to home.
Bull Run or Harper's Ferry anyone??

our Staycation Day
We aren't going away this summer. Between all of Josh/Keith's scout stuff and the price of gas we didn't really have the time or the funds.
I felt like we needed to do something with the boys. Saturday we spent the day in Charlottsville touring Monticello, Michies Tavern and Ash Lawn Highlands. Josh had a nice time as he has recently studied this time period in school. Tim on the other hand was pretty bored. Too many dead presidents he said.
This weekend we are headed to Gettysburg, PA for Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure that won't be much interest to him either. Hard to plan vacations when they are 5 grades apart in school. Especially when it isn't Nick Hotel (kid aspires to the expensive vacations!) He really wants to go fishing so if we can squeeze that in before summer is over he will be happy.I can only imagine what is "What I did on vacation" picture will look like ;-)
And so it begins...
Football practice starts tonight. Every. Stinking. Night. 5 days a week. Until School Starts.
6-8pm.
Summer is over.
29 days til school starts.
